This research is to examine the historical translation of design curriculum in Chiba University, specifically the academic subjects and its purposes. An examination was performed based on a school report of booklet "Syllabus". The authors analyze the establishment of compulsory subjects and introductory subjects. The result is as follows : (1) Contents of compulsory subjects have been changed since the design department was founded. (2) Contents of introductory subjects have reflected the concept of design by the Design Department. (3) Contents of the design curriculum have been extended from 'industrial design' to 'total design'.
