Bruno Taut (188O-1938). a German architect, served the National Research Institute of Industrial Arts(NRIIA) as an adviser between November 1933 and March 1934. He submitted to the NRIIA three reports respectively titled "PROGRAMM(PROGRAM)." "Be such in der Metallwerkstatt (auch Lack) mit den Herren Saito. Ueda und Suzuki (Visit to a metalwork (and japanwork) studio with Saito, Ueda and Suzuki)." and "Antwort auf die Frage des Direktors(Answer to the Director's question)" in the first month after his arrival. The present paper aims to study his fundamental principles in indusuial arts through the translation and analysis of the reports. He advocated that new type of Japanese industrial arts should come from the synthesis of Japanese tradition and Western modernity.
