If we observe bedridden old people with dementia, most of them seem to spend much time doing nothing and to be in a place distant from the world of play. We want to offer them an opportunity to feet the freedom through playing and to have the lively feeling. It is good for them also to do something of their own accord. Ms.N is always sitting in front of tbe TV and Ms.M is bedridden. We made some films of the scenes where they played with some playthings and analyzed them. Further more, we considered the views of their families besides their caregivers through questionnaire surveys and found out how significant the play in their lives is. In order to design such playthings as to lead them to the world of play, we extracted [lO elements required to make playthings for handicapped old people with dementia].
