Printing in England developed during the Industrial Revolution. Notably printed ephemeras increased in number and many Jobbing Letters were created in this piriod. One such letter was Fat Face type, a super extra bold typeface which appeared at the beginning of the 19th century and was often used for headings of posted bills from the 18lOs onwards. This typeface brought innovation in the visual expression on bills. However the study of the typography on bills before 1820 has been superficial. The purpose of this presentation is to consider the printing type designs, the printing types, and the composition of letters on bills from the 1760s to 1820.
