The design of signboards in South Korea was traditionally based on written letters. Handwriting used to be the main way of producing those signboard. However, with the appearance of new photo-composition techniques aud high-speed computer technologies, a large amount of new digital fonts has been developed. Furthermore, as high resolution and large size color printers became available the use of type face in signboards was substantially eased. This study classifies digital fonts used in South Korea today, helps designers select a type face by displaying the variation and possibilities that type faces have. It is the base for the creation and development of new fonts and styles in Hangul typography.
