Abstract

This paper presents Hakodate.Stats Narrative, an approach that utilizes narratives to provide auditory experiences of local historical statistical tables of Hakodate. Through a citizen-participatory workshop called SLAPUP (Statistics Landscape Projections over Unseen Past) Meeting, participants annotated statistical tables and shared their findings, questions, and insights, which served as sources for narratives. Auditory narrations were then created and recorded based on these narratives. Evaluations involving a student unfamiliar with the data suggested that auditory narration could improve focus and comprehension. It was also suggested that emphasizing distinctive words within the narration may facilitate better navigation.
