Abstract

This study categorizes fashion exhibitions into three types: designer/brand, historical costume, and conceptual. It focuses on conceptual exhibitions, which, especially in major international museums, address psychological and social issues such as race and gender beyond displaying garments. In Japan, “LOVE Fashion: In Search of Myself” exhibition explored human inner desire and the act of exhibiting fashion itself through experimental methods. Although rare and financially challenging in Japan, conceptual exhibitions remain significant for questioning why humans wear clothes and reconsidering the relationship between clothing and human life.
