The new "Course of Study" which was announced in 1978 and has now been used since 1982 requires study of "Science I" as a compulsory subject in the high school science course. In "Science I", there is an item to study the phenomena "Equilibrium" as it occurs in nature by way of an example of a kind of integrated science study. The authors have proposed how to develope this item in the teaching of high school science with some details. Firstly, the Equilibrium phenomena that pupils can recognize in their daily lives were divided into three categories 1) Equilibria between two systems, 2) multisystem equilibria, 3) those similar to the phenomena "balance", occuring in a system. For each category, teaching materials were idtroduced selecting from all fields of Science, and related to each other. As an example an interpretation of geographical equilibria is made referring to the solute-solvent equilibria that is familiar to the chemist. The proposals have been tested in several high schools in Saitama Prefecture, and pupils well appreciated the method of teaching.
