Impact of Practical Classes in Natural Sciences in Primary Education in Mozambique Using Local or Easily Accessible Materials

This study evaluates the impact of using practical classes with local or easily accessible materials in teaching Natural Sciences to 6th-grade students in Mozambique. A mixed-methods approach was used, involving classroom observations, teacher interviews, student tests (pre- and post-tests), and questionnaires. The findings suggest that most lessons are still taught traditionally. However, students exposed to practical activities were more engaged and performed better academically. Teachers reported a lack of laboratories and materials, which hinders practical teaching. The study concludes that incorporating hands-on activities enhances student interest, understanding, and critical thinking in Natural Sciences.
