Abstract

This study examined the dual structure in urban space from the perspective of society equals space structure by clarifying the leased-rented houses and residents in Fukuoka Castle Town. Various relationships between lending and borrowing were existed between samurai and townspeople. And these exchange relationships exceeded the class and status of samurais and townspeople. They mixed beyond their designated residential areas in the castle town. It became clear that variety of dual structures not only geographical and identities were included in Fukuoka and Hakata.
