Abstract
A 6-year-old Golden retriever suffering from vomiting and an enlarged abdomenshowed hematologic and biochemical abnormalities, including marked leukocytosis, azotemia and highalanineaminotransferase (ALT). A radiographic survey of the abdomen led to suspicion of ascite accumulation. Although these symptoms disappeared after initial treatment with antiseptic and diuretic agents, the sameclinical signs recurred after two weeks. When an exploratory laparotomy was performed, the left hepatic lobe was revealed to be enlarged and located at the position of the spleen. Examination of the hilar region revealed counterclockwise torsion of the lobe. The affected lobe was then excised. Histopathological examination showed severe degeneration and necrosis of the hepatocytes, and fibrosis in the lobe.
