The author proposed in the previous report, a new control scheme for the speed control of diesel vehicles in which wheel speed is taken into consideration and torsional vibration of the drive shaft is detected. In the present work, theoretical investigation was done on the new scheme. As a result, the engine-vehicle system can be stabilized with the introduction of the new scheme by giving the control gains for engine speed deviation and the speed difference between engine and wheel independently. Experiments were executed to examine the change in response under different control gain conditions and the effect of phase lag compensation. In order to demonstrate the effect of the new control scheme under a transient condition, acceleration test were carried out to get quite a successful control of surge phenomenon.
