Previously undescribed diseases occurring on osteospermum (Osteospermum hybridum), yellow cosmos (Cosmos sulphureus Cay.), and swamp chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum paludosum Poir.) were found in Yamagata and Mie Prefectures. The pathogenicity of isolates obtained from diseased plants for each host was demonstrated by inoculation tests. All isolates were identified as Botrytis cinerea Persoon: Fries based on morphological and cultural characteristics. This is the first report of gray mold on osteospermum, yellow cosmos and swamp chrysanthemum in Japan.
