Chiral sensing studies using induced circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) of lanthanide metal complexes are reviewed with our concept and future scope. Brief introduction for practical aspect of CPL measurement is also represented. Induced CPL is the phenomenon that achiral probe molecules, which show no CPL signal in normal condition, exhibits CPL when interacting with chiral agents and has recently been used for novel chiral sensing systems. The f-f transitions of lanthanide complexes have often been used for induced CPL because of their emission properties and large magnetic dipole moment. A structural distortion of the probe molecules induced by association with chiral amino acids is discussed based on observations of the induced CPL in various conditions. Allosteric-type chiral recognition model is presented for understanding the dependence of CPL on mole ratio of enantiomers.
