Mass spectra of 4-alkyl-or 4-phenyl quinazoline 1-oxides and 3-oxides are studied. The relative intensities of these. mass spectra greatly depend upon the sample pressure. Important mass spectrometric fragmentations of these compound are summarised by several pathways involving the elimination of O, OH, NO, CO and 4-substituted groups from the molecular ion at the first cleavage. In these path-ways the skeletal rearrangements contained peculiar dissociation patterns and the intermediate ions are detected.
