To analyze "Shokoku Banashi" (Tales of Localities), I looked at it from three different aspects of unusualness, confrontation, and the system of laws. There are a lot of unusual features observed in non-city areas and they are in a rapid transition. As to confrontation, there are the confrontation of spirit against body, men against animals or plants, and those between logics. Though the laws of Buddhism ars something that exist above confrontation, within the laws there are laughters and the intention for the "wisdom" to shake the laws themselves. It seems to me that, including these three elements, there is the "number" as the basic structure of the tales.
