This paper examines requests from retail companies for intemediate wholesalers in wholesale market transactions and compliances to requests from intermediate wholesalers. We conducted a questionnaire survey of 327 intermediate wholesalers in the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Wholesale Market. The results revealed that problematic trading practices include issues regarding delivery to the retailer's distribution center and its usage fee imposed on intermediate wholesalers, and a discount request for bargain sales. Furthermore, a comparison of hypermarkets and supermarkets revealed that the burden of trade practice at the former is a bigger problem for intermediate wholesalers.
