This study analyzed the promotion of horticulture through shipments to farmers’ market in a rice-growing region, taking the case in Niigata Prefecture. We conducted sales data analysis, questionnaire surveys, and interview surveys to clarify the characteristics of shippers and the expansion route of horticultural work. As a result, we found that the horticultural expansion by multi-item cultivation was also observed in the rice cultivation area, while the specific gravity of rice cultivation affected sales behavior. It was also found that farmers’ markets contribute to the promotion of horticulture in the rice cultivation area.
