This study analyzes the uniqueness of S. Kashiwa’s theory by focusing on the interpretation of H. Rickert. The main results are as follows. First, The concept of middle area raised by H. Rickert drew critical attention from K. Soda and K. Miki. Second, S. Kashiwa proposed his own concept of middle area without referring to the concept of a middle area proposed by H. Rickert. Third, Japanese agricultural economists tend to follow S. Kashiwa’s interpretation regarding H. Rickert’s scientific classification. These results contribute to the construction of a foundation for a theory on the interpretation of agronomy in Japan.
