Based on 10 Mandarin speakers from Beijing and 10 Japanese speakers from Tokyo, we compared the prosodic performance of Chinese and Japanese declarative sentences from three aspects: pitch, duration, and intensity. The results show that both the similarities and differences exist in the two languages. It suggests that tone and pitch accent at the lexical level have an impact on the prosody at the sentence level, and their ways and mechanisms of superposition and co-occurrence are different. In addition, the factors affecting the sentence prosody in the two languages are also different. For Chinese, register, contour, boundary position, and respiratory rhythm are important influencing factors. For Japanese, the existence of nuclear tone, the position of nuclear tone, and the register are relatively important affecting factors.
