Pronase P (Empynase), a proteinase, has been administered orally to 30 patients with chronic sinusitis three copsules daily for consecutive 28 days.
Thus evaluation of the therapeutic effect of this drug has been made both objectively and subjectively utilizing various tests.
General conclusions drawned are as follows:
1) Of 22 patients to whom paspat intradermal test was applied, 12 or 54.6% revealed negative reaction after the conclusion of the administration, in contrast with, 9 or 40.9% revealed negative reaction prior to the administration of this drug.
2) Of 22 patients to whom agultination test was imposed, on the other hand, 8 or 30.8%indicated negative reaction, while 6 cases or 27.3% showed negative before the administration of this drug.
3) Subjective alleviation of the symptoms has been expressed by 25 of 30 patients or in 80.7%.
4) Objective improvement was obtained in 20 of 30 cases. Others failed to show any improvement.
5) As general evaluation, 20 cases or 64.6% concluded as improved or markedly improved and it is interesting that this value incidentally coincide with the results of objective improvement of the symptoms.
