A new aluminum silicate phase, Ca12Al10Si4O35, forms a zeolitic structure with the framework of the (Al,Si)O4 tetrahedra and occludes the superoxide anion (O2-) and peroxide species (O22-) in a cavity with nano space (~4A ) of the framework. The crystal structure of Ca12Al10Si4O35 was similar to that of 12CaO•7Al2O3 (Ca12Al14O33). Because only 32 oxygens in the formula unit belong to the aluminosilicate framework, the formula of Ca12Al10Si4O35 should be expressed as Ca12Al10Si4O32(O3) to emphasize the incorporated radical anions. The most striking feature of this material is that Ca12Al10Si4O35 exhibits the activity for the oxidation of hydrocarbons to carbon oxides (CO2 and CO) and H2O at > 400oC, due to the radical oxygen species present in microporous crystal.
