The internal friction in the systems of K2O-Na2O-Al2O3-GeO2 glass containing no nonbridging oxygen ions was measured by a free damping method at a frequency of 0.4 Hz. The internal friction measured as a function of temperature revealed one peak or two peaks with change in Na/K ratio, and the compositional dependence for temperature and height of those peaks was investigated. It was suggested that peaks observed on the internal friction curve in mixed alkali aluminogermanate glasses were mainly caused by the movement of Na and K ions.However, it was also suggested that Na ions or K ions were not moved independently because movements of Na ions and K ions were mutually controlled.
