In the cement rotary kiln of Japan, various wastes are used as raw material and fuel, and the type and throughput increase recently. As this result, sulfur oxides, etc. increase in the kiln, and the wear of the basic brick increases by the reaction with them. Not only reactions of basic brick and sulfur oxides but also potassium chloride, etc. are concerned in this damage mechanism, and the basic brick wears out by the work of mechanical stress from the rotary kiln. New knowledge′s are reported center on the damage of the refractory observed in cement rotary kiln like the above.
