A-25-year-old-woman was admitted to our hospital because of fever and abdominal distension. Her ascites had a high adenosine deaminase level (161.3U/l) . Diagnostic laparoscopy revealed found thickened peritoneum, hemorrhagic ascites, fibrous adhesions, and white nodules. Histopathological examination of biopsy specimens of a white nodule and the peritoneum showed epithelioid cell granulomas and caseous necrosis, and detected Mycobacterium tuberculosis. 4 antituberculous drugs were started on the 16th hospital day, and she had a benign course. Diagnostic laparoscopy should be considered for accurate diagnosis of tuberculous peritonitis.
