Since Stair-Stepping is severely detrimental to part accuracy, especially in the form of finish, there has been numerous research efforts in the past to eliminate or, at least, improve this effect. Apparently, any method implementing changes in recoating or scanning or even both, to build sloping surfaces, seems feasible. Paradoxically, most new techniques increase sophistication or create practical hindrances not suitable for an economical solution. The major aim of this research is reduction of stair-stepping effect using less technical resources and keeping the system simple. To realize such a system, Slant Scanning SL System has been fabricated and experimented at. A number of experiments performed have proved the feasibility of the new technique and subsequent reduction of stair-steps. The salient features of the new design are: use of UV light, lesser degrees of sophistication required and same working during up-facing and down-facing etc. This paper describes design, fabrication and experimental results of the Slant Beam Rotation Scanning system.
