Among the different additive manufacturing techniques developed so far, direct-write electrospinning (DWE) is one of the few techniques that can prepare 3D microstructured scaffolds with high deposition resolution. This process uses an electric field to stretch the polymer (molten or in solution) between the nozzle and the deposition surface. Firstly, the presentation will present the principle as well as the advantages of this technique. Then it will focus on biomedical applications, and more precisely on tissue engineering. Each topic will be discussed in detail, explaining how the DWE technique is an asset in the manufacturing of resorbable structures. A peculiar example will be given in the field of dentistry. Periodontitis, which is a gum infection, damages the tissues involved in the tooth support. To restore the attachment of the tooth to the bone, a proper regeneration of the periodontal ligaments and the two connected mineralized tissues is necessary. In this work, a bi-functional scaffold was developed for the bone and the cement regeneration in the periodontal complex. To do so, two functional parts containing hydroxyapatite nanoparticles and the cementum protein 1 (CEMP1) were superimposed. The final part of the presentation will outline future research activities.
