Abstract

Private gardens have a possibility for functional role in space for keeping greenery in urban area. However, it needs resident's self activities for greenery. We tried to analyze utilities and problems of greenery reflected in resident's image of private gardens. This paper presents text mining approach from free description about private garden and indicates resident's thought for greenery. The results show that residents recognize private gardens as the space of keeping greenery. It was clarified that residents gain healing. On the other hand, it was considered that older people desire to keep greenery. Nevertheless, they feel the burden of maintenance and reduce the greenery. It was clarified that private gardens are helpful to keep greenery and provide for healing. Furthermore, it is important to consider problem with maintenance.
