Abstract

This study discusses current status and issues of vacant stores utilization projects in cities of Fukushima Prefecture. This study concludes that (1) vacant stores utilization projects are effective for decreasing vacant stores and developing entrepreneurs in central cities, (2) however, the number of instances of utilization of projects is much less than that of vacant stores in central cities, and lots of owners do not intend to use vacant stores effectively, and (3) it is important to operate vacant stores utilization projects appropriately and to establish systems to encourage owners of vacant stores to use effectively.
