Abstract

A redevelopment building improves safety and urban function, on the other hand city turn into standardization and become less attractive. In addition, recently it tends to maintain old building than rebuild a new one. This paper clarifies the process of redevelopment and architectural form of Mikasa Shopping Street located in the downtown of Yokosuka City. It was constructed in 1959 as fireproof buildings belt and a redevelopment building. We examine history and originality of its redevelopment at that time. Through the research, it is intended to suggest what redevelopment should be.
