A Study on Utilization of Traditional Townhouse in Kyoto “Kyo-machiya” as Accommodation Facilities

Focused on the Common Lodging Houses of Inns and Hotels Act

Abstract

This research aims to clarify the present situation of the facilities that received permission from "Common Lodging House Operation" of the Inns and Hotels Act, in Kyoto City as the target area because these houses affect various regulations of New Private Lodging Business Act. For the above objective, the present authors analyze certificates of registered matter of the accommodation facilities as the Kyo-machiya that are listed through the Inns and Hotels Act. This method clarifies the issues in terms of the conservation and utilization of Kyo-machiya as real estate property. Thus, the present authors seek to promote the use of traditional Kyo-machiya in historical urban areas while showing the direction of maintenance and utilization of the Kyo-machiya.
