Abstract

This report describes the changes of Tsukuba City based on the results of social area analysis. Our objective is to capture the social changes that occurred from 2010 to 2020, a period characterized by major changes for the city. The results of the analysis revealed that: (1) while social areas were formed in accordance with the classification of Research and Education District, TX Vicinity Developed Region, and the Suburban Development District, there was a diversification of social areas over the past decade, (2) there were particularly significant social changes in the TX Vicinity Developed Region, (3) social changes brought about by the abolition of civil servant housing did not have a substantial impact on the reformation of social areas, and (4) In the southern region, there was an increase in the population commuting to other prefectures, as well as in the number of individuals employed in the service sector.
