The Saru river basin is located in South Hokkaido, the west of Mts. Hidaka, Japan. The Saru river basin belongs to various geological conditions, such as accretionary complex, sedimentary rock, plutonic rock and metamorphic rock. Airborne laser-based survey was conducted on major river basins in Hokkaido the year of 2005 and 2006 by Hokkaido development bureau. According to the field survey on the Soushubetsu Creek, a tributary of the Nukabira River, shallow landslides formation appear as a rotational, translational and rock fall in accordance with the changes in the geological types. The detailed topographic relief map based on the airborne laser survey indicated that landform and landslide patterns also have tendency to geological types. Slaking test results revealed that Neocene and Cretaceous sedimentary rock is easy to becoming fine sediment after the out door exposure.
