Glycopeptides were isolated from tryptic digests of the human, bovine 4th and swine gastric mucosa. The separation of the glycopeptides was performed by preparative zone electrophoresis in a Pevikon C-870 block. After gel filtration of certain fractions on Biogel A-50m, final separation was achieved by chromatography on DEAE cellulose. The results have been discussed and summarized as follows.
Fractionation of nondialyzable glycopeptide from human stomach tissue by DEAE cellulose column chromatography yielded two fractions and from both bovine 4th and swine stomach tissues five fractions, respectively; they were generally characterized by an increase in sialic acid and sulfate as the molarity of NaCl solution increased. Hexose was the main component and hexosamine was the next in all fractions from all materials.
