In this study, progress in energy efficiency of electric driven heat pump type district heating and cooling system (DHC) is predicted by a simulation model, which is developed based on an existing high energy efficiency DHC plant. The results show that utilization of natural and unused heat sinks/sources and variable speed technique are very effective in reducing energy consumption, and energy efficiency can reach 1.6 when all energy saving measures including abovementioned technique is introduced. These findings reveal the highest potential energy efficiency at DHC plant, as well as show what technique is effective to enhance energy efficiency.
