This study introduces a new and effective tool named SPREEM developed to evaluate running performance of a District Heating and Cooling (DHC) plant or a microgrid. While applying Life Cycle Energy Management (LCEM) concept for buildings, the tool was designed to incorporate distributed energy resources such as renewable energy, unutilized energy and CHPs into a DHC or a microgrid. A trial run at a DHC plant showed outstanding traceability proving its effectiveness in improving performance in an effort to reduce CO2 emission by building blocks.
