A specimen of a freshwater shrimp, Atyopsis spinipes (Newport, 1847) (Decapoda: Atyidae) was collected from the Hirayama River, Otsuki Town, Hata District, Kochi Prefecture, Japan. In Japanese waters, A. spinipes was previously known from Chiba, Kanagawa, Shizuoka and Wakayama Prefectures, Kagoshima Prefecture Mainland, and the Osumi and Ryukyu Islands. Thus, the present specimen represents the first record of the species from Shikoku Island.
