The authors aim to make clear the characteristics of hot spring resources and its utilization in Shizuoka Prefecture which is a typical one of the Japanese hot spring areas. In addition, the whole hot spring resources have been assessed and its regional characteristics were discussed. As a result, hot spring development in Shizuoka Prefecture has come into the period with large depth digging as a whole. Especially, it is remarkable after 1990 in hot spring resorts in the East coast of Izu Peninsula. In the total assessment of hot spring resources, the Nishi Izu area was highly evaluated; comparatively, the Kuchi Izu area (including Atami and Itoh hot spring resorts) and the Naka Izu area where the development started earlier were evaluated low.
