The present study was conducted with the aim of collecting real issues of international ecotourism. In this paper, I report that Japan association for Greening of Deserts' tree-planting project in Engebei Desert, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China contributed to the success of greening of desert ecotourism in that area. This case study indicates that there are 3 steps in activities of Japan association for Greening of Deserts' tree-planting project. First step is the start of planting tree by Japan association for Greening of Deserts. Second step is that tree-planting project has great benefits the region’s environment and economy. Finally step is that the activities of tree-planting are established as a greening of desert ecotourism. However, inhabitants of that district have not participated in those ecotourism activities. If it creates a sustainable ecotourism system in that area, it should incorporate opinions or suggestions from inhabitants. In western and other countries, there are many studies about the ecotourism that relate to international volunteer activities. On the other hand, there is little research in Japan where international volunteer ecotourism is popular. So, it is important to discussion about national volunteer tourism that is new style of tourism in Japan.
