An optimal operation condition which minimizes power consumption for horizontal transport of granules in an established flow region is examined by using a suspension flow model and is compared with experimental results. It is found that there exists a pair of air velocity and pipe diameter which minimizes the power consumption for a given weight flow rate of granules and that it depends on the pipe friction coefficient, the free falling veloicty and the terminal velocity ratio to the air velocity of the granules and the pipe friction coefficient for air flow. It is also shown that the optimal diameter increases with an increasing weight flow rate of granules.
