In this report, the cryogenic crushing of non-brittle materials such as polyvinyl-chloride, nutmeg, tea leaves, potato, maize and soy bean is examined with two kinds of mill. The effect of temperature on crushing energy consumption is investigated. In the case of some materials tested, the energy efficiency in cryogenic crushing is estimated by considering the energy requirement for cooling.
The results show that the saving amount of crushing energy consumption is considerably lower than the energy required for cooling within the limit of this experimental condition, and consequently, it is found that the effect of cryogenic crushing in respect to energy saving is not so hopeful.
