The purpose of this study is to clarify the conditions for the survival of small towns and villages. The survival of these towns and villages is regulated by the relationship with the city area. Its significance has been recognized but has not been analyzed as one with the economic structure. Therefore, the economic structure and trade relations were clarified by preparing an input-output table for all municipalities in Tottori Prefecture.
Furthermore, in order to clarify the relationship between the city and surrounding towns and villages, a trade table between the city and the towns and villages was created.
Based on these tables, the economic induction effect was estimated, and the relationship between cities and villages was quantified by the multivariate analysis.
As a result, it was found that the survival of the towns and villages was influenced not only by the productivity but also by the strength of the supply and demand relationship with the city. In addition to this, a single regional policy of a town or village does not produce enough effect in that region. For this reason, regional policies need to be worked together by the city and surrounding towns and villages.
