This study evaluated the systematic oral care program that we developed for residents in the special nursing home for the elderly.
The subjects consisted of eight dependent elder residents who had their own teeth.
Mouth cleaning was carried out according to the program by nursing staff once a day.
The values of plaque and gingival indices were evaluated for a period of 18 months.
The values decreased in the four-month investiga tionperiod, and good condition of oral hygiene was maintained.
It was proven that the systematic oral care pro gramwas useful for improving oral hygiene in dependent elderly at the special elderly nursing home.
