Examination of the stomach contents of the young of Mugil cephalus, ranging from 2.15 to 3.95cm im body length, revealed that the stage in question, which is locally called “Haku”, feeds chiefly on benthoic animals such as Amphipds and Harpacticoid Copepods. When it develops into the succeeding stage generally called “Oboko”, it loses the former feeding habit, acquiring new one peculiar to the adult form of the fish living on Diatoms and Cyanophyceae, etc, .
Such a fact will afford some significant information concerning the practising of pisciculture of this fish.
