In order to establish the method for efficient propagation of sturgeon, oocyte diameter, serum vitellogenin (Vg) level, germinal vesicle position (GVP), and in vitro oocyte maturation response to progesterone were examined in bester females (Huso huso female×Acipenser ruthenus male) correlated with their maturation and ovulatory response to hormonal treatment. Serum Vg level and GVP were significantly changed correlated with oocyte growth. Serum Vg level and in vitro oocyte maturation response to progesterone reflected ovulatory response to hormonal treatment. These results suggested that females suitable for artificial propagation can be selected by measuring these factors regularly.
