When the diphtheria toxine was intravenously administered in such a dose as to kill the unanaesthetized dogs in about 24 hours, no significant alteration was elicited in the epinephrine liberation from the suprarenal gland in the ethcrized dogs, provided with the cava pocket. Somewhat the same holds true for the non-fastened, non-anaesthetized dogs, in which the suprarenal vein blood was collected by the lumbar route preparation without causing any pain because of the de-afferentation of the region; only in two instances out of eleven, in which a moderate dose was applied, an unmistakable augmentation of epinephrine liberation was observed.
The blood sugar estimations in these so de-afferented dogs as well as in quite normal ones, 19 in all, yielded quite negative results, except a single case, which died 6 hours after an excessive dose of toxine fluid.
