Abstract
(1) Peptone was tried to the rabbits, long surviving the double suprarenalectomy and to the dogs, the suprarenal medulla of which were removed.
Double suprarenalectomy acts to reduce in rabbits the intensity of the peptone hyperglycaemia unmistakably, but in a lesser degree compared with the double splanchnicotomy.
Demedullation of the suprarenal glands affects rather seriously the magnitude of the peptone hyperglycaemia, while double splanchnicotomy with or without the removal of the sympathetic ganglia in the abdominal cavity does not act to reduce the peptone hyperglycaemia on the large scale.
(2) Peptone and adrenaline hydrochloride were given to the suprarenalectomized rabbits, alone or in combination. The doses applied were such that the hyperglycaemia by adrenaline was of a larger magnitude and of longer duration than that caused by the other drug. When combined the hyperglycaemia appeared in such an intensity definitely smaller than that by adrenaline alone but similar with that by peptone alone, but the time when the peak of the hyperglycaemia appeared and the length of the hyperglycaemic period coincided rather with those in the adrenaline experiments.
