Abstract

How establishment of the Eck fistula acts on the gastric secretion was studied in three dogs with the Pavlov pouch, and one with the Heidenhain. Some weeks were allowed to elapse from preparing of the pouch and testing the gastric secretion on giving various food-stuffs, with one third of the calories per diem. Five days after having established the Eck fistula the test was begun, and it was carried out from time to time in the interval of several months.
Gastric secretion was estimated always as having increased after establishment of the Eck fistula, regardless of the kinds of the food-stuffs and regardless of the kinds of stomach pouch, that is, irrespective of the pouch bad almost complete innervation or was deprived thereof. But the velocity of secretion and its duration increased, thus the total amount too.
In some cases there were some periodical fluctuations in the amount of juice, collected for hour. Two to five, six hours were a period. The “secondary increase” of Lebedinskaja, seconded by Gerez and Weiss is a portion of this periodical fluctuation. This is also remarked in the control experiment, that is in the experiment not provided with the Eck fistula, though very seldom and insignificant mass.
