Abstract
To three dogs with the biliary bladder fistula, various kinds of food-stuffs were given in the amount corresponding to one-third of the basal metabolism per diem re fuel value.
The protein diet was most potent in bringing about the secretion of bile, regardless of whether the food was of animals, fish, or of vegetables. They all were similarly potent as cholagogenous agents. The carbohydrate and the fat diet were definitely inferior.
The present outcome differs from that of Okada, who administered bread, butter and meat to the dogs in the corresponding amount rê the fuel value, and saw a quite similar amount of bile secreted. It must be mentioned that another experimentalist in this Laboratory obtained on the one hand a smililar outcome to Okada from one dog, and on the other hand a similar one to the present writer from another dog.
