Abstract
In this study, I analyzed the festival that had been performed in a local city after modern times. I defined a family unit, which constituted a commercial district, as “Shoka (merchant’s family)” who runs both a business and daily life.
I surveyed development of the town and the festival of Hanamaki, Iwate.
Furthermore, I surveyed detail of the history of the festival car service that has been performed in one of “Cho-nai (the community blocks)” which constituted the commercial district.
In conclusion, I suggest that the festival of the commercial town has a compound meaning for people, and the history of the festival that is apt to be considered as a development process of “the modernization” consists of the expression of traditional and modern social relations to accumulate actually.
